ocean and teaching and stuff…
Hi All!
Kumusta ka? (how are you?)
So this was an action packed weekend.
Since the Philippines is made up of over 7,107 islands (during low tide) PC wants to make sure that we know how to survive in the ocean. There probably will be a time sometime in the 2 year period here that we will be in a boat so they issue everyone a life vest and have a weekend of water safety training… ie playing in a beautiful ocean!
So they threw us in a boat floated us out in the middle of the ocean and we jump out, flip over a boat, and climb back in. haha…. It was a good time. I also got darker which isn’t a desired asset to a lot of woman here… but I’m embracing my darkness. Oh yea and umbrellas are a must… not just because it rains but it also helps with the heat, there is about a 5 degree difference under the umbrella and outside of it.
We left on Friday and then we got back Saturday late afternoon.
This weekend is my host mom and sisters birthdays so its going to be lots of food, people, and “chicka chicka” – chit chat!!! Oh yea and another cool asian connection is that they LOVE karaoke here….but here they call it videoke .
So in terms of professional work:
. we spent the first couple of days here in the city doing courtesy calls meeting the governor, the mayor, the school superintendent, and the principal and teachers of the school that we are going to be training at
. we start co teaching next week and we spent the last 2 weeks doing observations in the classroom
. the high school itself is huuuugee 11,000 students so the students are on section rotations and only go to school 3 days a week because the school itself can’t support all of the students there at one time.
. I will be doing the 4th years for the next 2 months and I will know more about my permanent site in 2 weeks!!! Ekks!
I actually just had an interview for site placement an hour ago…. And I think I’m going to be placed somewhere rural…. So we will see how it turns out.
That’s all for now… miss you all!
p.s.
i posted pictures on my facebook so go check them out!
